Wine
Tyrrell's 4 Acres Shiraz is only ever produced in outstanding vintages. It draws from one of Tyrrell's Sacred Sites: an old block of Shiraz planted in 1879 by founder Edward Tyrrell.
The vines originate from cuttings brought from Europe to Australia by James Busby in 1832. Spared from the 19th century Phylloxera epidemic that wiped out Europe's great vineyards, they are now among the oldest vines in the world.
The fruit is handpicked and sorted in the vineyard. It is destemmed for natural fermentation in open vats, with some whole bunch inclusion in certain years. The wine is then aged in a seasoned oak cask for 15 months.
Bright purple, Tyrrell's 4 Acres Shiraz is medium bodied with long fruit flavours that are the hallmark of superb old vineyards. Fine tannins and fresh acidity provide balance.
A classic Hunter Valley Shiraz. Cellaring potential is 25 years.
